Does Obesity Affect Fertility? A Complete Guide + Treatment in Iran

Image
Obesity is one of the most overlooked factors in fertility challenges — yet its impact is significant and well-documented. How Does Obesity Harm Fertility? For women, obesity disrupts ovarian follicle recruitment, egg development and quality, fertilization, and embryo implantation. For men, it leads to hormonal imbalances and reduced sperm quality.  The PCOS Connection Women with PCOS — a condition affecting about 1 in 10 women of childbearing age — often experience both fertility issues and obesity together. Many also have insulin resistance, which independently affects ovulation and the ability to conceive.  What Happens During IVF? During ovarian stimulation, obese women tend to need higher FSH doses, have fewer eggs collected, show lower estradiol levels, experience more cycle cancellations, and have lower pregnancy rates. They are also at increased risk of miscarriage after IVF or ICSI.  Can Weight Loss Help? Absolutely. Weight loss of more than 5 kg ca...

Ectopic Pregnancy — What You Need to Know + Treatment Options in Iran

Image
What Is an Ectopic Pregnancy? Ectopic pregnancy: What it is, causes and treatment An ectopic pregnancy happens when the fertilized egg grows outside the womb, usually in the fallopian tubes, which are not built to support a pregnancy. As it develops, the tube may rupture, causing serious risks — which is why early treatment is absolutely vital.  Common Symptoms: Early warning signs often include light vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain. If blood leaks from the fallopian tube, shoulder pain or pressure may also be felt. If the tube ruptures, heavy internal bleeding can cause extreme lightheadedness, fainting, and shock.  How Is It Diagnosed? Doctors typically use a transvaginal ultrasound to check if the gestational sac is outside the uterus, along with blood and urine tests to measure hCG hormone levels.  Treatment: Treatment options include surgical removal of the embryo or fallopian tube, or medical treatment with methotrexate in suitable cases.  Seekin...

“Like a Sci-Fi Movie”: Baby Born from 30-Year-Old Frozen Embryo Sets World Record

In an extraordinary story that sounds like something straight out of science fiction, a baby boy has been born from an embryo that had been frozen for more than   30 years , setting a new world record. The child,  Thaddeus Daniel Pierce , was welcomed by Lindsey (35) and Tim Pierce (34) from Ohio after years of struggling with infertility. Speaking to MIT Technology Review, Lindsey described the experience as “like something from a sci-fi movie.” This remarkable birth surpasses the previous record set in 2022, when twins were born from embryos frozen since 1992. From the 1990s to 2024: The Journey of an Embryo The embryo was originally created in 1994 by  Linda Archerd , now 62, during her IVF treatment with her then-husband. Out of the four embryos created at that time, one became her daughter, while the remaining three stayed in frozen storage for decades. Despite her divorce, Archerd chose not to discard the embryos, donate them for research, or relinquish them ...

Weight Loss Before IVF Boosts Chances of Natural Conception, Study Reveals

Image
Women struggling with obesity who commit to structured weight loss programs before starting in vitro fertilisation (IVF) may significantly increase their chances of conceiving naturally, according to new research led by the   University of Oxford . Results showed that participants who followed weight loss interventions—such as diet plans, exercise programs, or weight management medications—were  47% more likely to conceive naturally  compared to those who received little or no support. Beyond natural conception, weight loss programmes also improved the likelihood of achieving pregnancy through any method (either naturally or via IVF), with an overall increase of  21% . However, experts caution that while these results highlight promising benefits, the impact on the ultimate outcome—a healthy liv...
